Island Website is a project by Kurt Avish and Yusha to rank, aggregate and also promote blogs and websites of Mauritius. This project started in January 2009 but was postponed so many times due to other work and limitations. Finally I decided to get the hell out of the shell and complete it. (Hell it was so good to complete it)!
Island Website was released on beta on 29 July 2009 at some hours and some minutes we still don’t remember. I know you must be thinking where is the BETA icon on the banners. I simply do not like it so we decided to not put it. The project is expected to get out of beta sometime in 2010 as we are still developing and adding new functionality to the website.
You do not have to use it. Island Website is here to list and promote Mauritian blogs, websites, forums and other legit web materials of Mauritius. I did this as even I started as a blogger and I know how hard it is to rise and grow a blog. Island Website is a promotional tool of Mauritian internet. Whether you want to use it or not depends on you.
No. All stats used on Island Websites can be verified elsewhere on the web. It is not because that I own a blog too that I will promote mine more. Everyone gets there share for the work they do. If you have a blog and you post often, your post will be displayed in the latest 10 posts of Mauritius. If you are lazy, then the list will be lazy with you too. If the internet says that your site statistics is good, IW will say it too.
Island Website uses accepted web standards to calculate the grade and rank of a blog or website. The factors considered are:
The top 10 blogs and top 10 websites are calculated based on the famous Website Grader tool algorithm customised specially for the Mauritian Web.
Yea I know and that is why it is in beta. I am still trying to find the solutions to the some problems the site is having. We are getting toward our targeted objective day by day and expecting to be out of beta for a final launch in late 2010.
There could be 3 possible reasons.
I know of this issue. While I did everything to use the most reliable way to grab the feeds, at times certain articles may not appear immediately as Island Website uses cache to reduce server load. Normally feeds are updated each 30 minutes and under some rare conditions your feed may not appear for upto 1 hour. However if you see that your articles are not appearing for more than 3 hours, please inform us using the contact form.
This is not a must. However we would like that you do it. Even a small link on your blogroll is fine or you can use our small banners available at the bottom of each profile page.
This problem is often due to your browser cache. Try clear the cache and cookies of your browser and reload your profile page. If you are using Firefox simply press CTRL F5.
At times the script also has some problem to access your feed due to squid cache on your server. Normally for this problem, it should automatically be solved once your server cache is refreshed.
